TLDR

Imperial Mandate Aatrox Runes

Optional Summoner Spells
Mark
Mark (Snowball) for a go-in tool if you want to be more aggressive and make picks.
Ghost
Ghost for extra mobility and chasing - great for staying on top of enemies.
Optional Runes
Guardian
You can take Guardian, to play more like a support. You need to stay close to your allies to protect and mitigate some damage. This is less aggressive version to stay more in back.
Demolish
If you are into taking objectives, you can consider taking Demolish rune. Usually it is worth it and lets you push turrets quicker. Utility slash team oriented option.
How it works
- You play as a Slow Tank - slowing enemies, disrupting fights and soaking damage.
- Your only core item is Imperial Mandate. Then you go tanky and adapt.
- Your game is about disrupting fights, being annoying, Slowing/Healing/Buffing and soaking damage.
Playstyle
Invoke chaos in teamfights. Run around, slow enemies, get their focus and survive.
Your main core item is Imperial Mandate. Focus on buying it first to start buffing your team's damage.
Adapt your items: go full tank or get support items.
How to play
Imperial Mandate Aatrox
- Imperial Mandate Aatrox is a very different take on regular Aatrox Bruiser build. Instead of focusing on maxing Q, going AD and casting abilities, you are gonna be tanky and mainly auto-attacking, consuming Grasp of the Undying procs and making use of item procs.
- As Imperial Mandate Aatrox, you go in, soak damage, disrupt fights and do a lot of auto attacking.
- You can optionally max Q first, if an enemy team has a lot of ranged/poke champs and you cannot go toe to toe.
- Your E resets your auto attack!
Getting started
- Invoke chaos in teamfights. Run around fights. Slow enemies. Run into them. Get focused and escape.
Items
- Your core item is Imperial Mandate. That's pretty much all you need, then you can go tanky/damage. Or you can get further Imperial Mandate items:
- Zeke's Convergence - when you ult, you AoE slow. Very good for engaging and applying Imperial Mandate.
- Randuin's Omen - very good for engagements, you go in and AoE slow whole team.
- Or you can just go tanky
- You can go some support items as well in some cases, like Ardent Censer if you got a lot of auto attackers on your team.
Runes
- Your CC triggers Glacial Augment.
- Your slows trigger Font of Life AND Imperial Mandate, healing and buffing damage of your allies.
- Font of Life heal can trigger various support items, like Ardent Censer, Staff of Flowing Water or even Moonstone Renewer. So you can go these items if you want to be a support.
Game
- Don't be afraid to engage! You can get Randuin's Omen and Zeke's Convergence for really powerful engagements with AoE slow!
- Helping this pattern of engage is Warmog's Armor. Engage, sow chaos, soak some damage and get back to heal fully.
- You need to adapt your items to the game. Enemy team heavy on AP? Buy MR. They heavy on AD? Buy Armor. You need some damage? Well buy that.
Tips and Tricks
Champion
The Darkin Blade (Q)
- Q + Flash combo: You can use Flash during any time of The Darkin Blade (Q) animations. You can even combine that with Umbral Dash (E). You can Flash and E in any direction, making very spectacular and flashy plays.
- To elevate your Aatrox's game, when you want to Q + Flash combo or Q + E combo, make sure to do it at the very last frame of the animation, so enemies won't have any time to react.
- Flash or E at the very end of Q animation, to elevate your combo. This way your enemies won't have a chance to react.
Umbral Dash (E)
- You can use Umbral Dash (E) for short dash, this way animation lasts shorter, and you can get crucial milliseconds to auto attack faster (can be deciding a factor in 1v1).
- You can reset your auto attack timer with Umbral Dash (E). It might be crucial in duels, or when pushing enemy turrets.
World Ender (R)
- Most people think of Aatrox’s World Ender (R) as just a tool to go all-in, but it actually has a lot of value even if you don’t fully commit. Just pressing R can scare enemies off - they’ll often back away, delay a fight, or play safe until it wears off. You can use that window to pressure them, take space, or secure an objective without even fighting.
Riot
- Use Umbral Dash while casting The Darkin Blade to increase your chances of hitting the enemy.
- Crowd Control abilities like Infernal Chains or your allies' immobilizing effects will help you set up The Darkin Blade.
- Cast World Ender when you are sure you can force a fight.
Skill Order
- The Darkin Blade
Q
- Infernal Chains
W
- Umbral Dash
E
- World Ender
