How it works

General

  1. You play as burst oriented Mage.
  2. You build AP items.
  3. You rush Hextech Rocketbelt.

How to play

General

  1. Playing AP Irelia build, your default rush is Hextech Rocketbelt.
  2. Adapt to an enemy team. Are they full of tanks, and they rush tons of Magic Resist? You rush Void Staff as #2 or #3 item to counter MR stacking. Their team has champs with lots of healing? Rush Oblivion Orb as #2 item (upgrade to Morellonomicon as 4th or 5th item).
  3. Somebody is going after you each fight? Always getting ulted by enemy assassins? Rush Zhonya's Hourglass.

Champion

  1. Hextech Rocketbelt is very good item for this build as it enables you to make more plays with your Flawless Duet (E) and Vanguard's Edge (R).

Defiant Dance (W)

  1. Defiant Dance (W) is your bread and butter tool. It reduces damage (makes you super durable) and has tons of damage.
  2. Your W is gonna hit like a truck. That's one of the tools you use to burst enemies.
  3. Enemy team will often try to burst you if you get close or try to combo. It is way safer to start casting W right away, do not wait for a special moment, because if you get CC'ed, you die.

Skill Order

  1. Your default skill order is Defiant Dance (W) > Flawless Duet (E) > Bladesurge (Q), but you can also do Flawless Duet (E) > Defiant Dance (W) > Bladesurge (Q) if you just want to poke from the distance.

AP Irelia Combos

  1. You can use Hextech Rocketbelt in these combos to make them more flashy, efficient and fun!
  2. Combo #1: cast Flawless Duet (E) behind you, Bladesurge (Q) to minion and immediately Flawless Duet (E) enemy champion, and start casting Defiant Dance (W) for protection and burst dmg, try hitting your target (you need to time it well).
  3. Combo #2: cast Vanguard's Edge (R), then Flash into an enemy team (they will not expect it), followed up by E, Q and W. Preferably keep W for disengage.

Tips and Tricks

Champion

  1. You are an ultimate minion killer, thanks to your Bladesurge (Q). You can farm better than most champions. Use it for your advantage!
  2. Combo: You can cast Vanguard's Edge (R), then Flash forward to engage, catch unsuspecting enemies and damage them.

Build

  1. Your Bladesurge (Q) is still a great farming tool, even if you are playing AP build. Farm!

Riot

  1. Use Bladesurge to cover great distances by targeting low life minions on your way to champion targets.
  2. Defiant Dance is not interrupted by crowd control, try timing it for incoming disables.
  3. Flawless Duet does not have a maximum travel distance, try using it in creative ways.
