How it works

How it works

  1. You build around high percentage health damage from your abilities and on-hit procs.
  2. Dusk and Dawn gives an additional on-hit effect that scales your damage significantly.
  3. Hextech Gunblade provides large Ability Power and a slow active to help land skillshots.
  4. Abyssal Mask offers a cost-effective 12% magic damage increase aura around you.

Champion

  1. Your Molten Burst (E) mark causes auto-attacks to deal % max health magic damage on-hit.
  2. Your Emberstrike (Q) is an instant double-strike that procs on-hit effects and triggers Press the Attack immediately.
  3. Abyssal Mask amplifies your Inferno Aegis (W) and Dragon Form AOE magic damage.

How to play

Team Compositions & When to Build

  1. Build this primarily when facing multiple tanks or bruisers where percentage health damage shines.
  2. Ensure you have engage champions on your team, as diving in alone without frontline support will get you eliminated quickly.
  3. If the entire enemy team is squishy, avoid this build.

Playstyle & Combos

  1. Use Hextech Gunblade active to slow the enemy first, allowing you to land Molten Burst (E) more consistently.
  2. Trigger Press the Attack quickly with auto-attacks and Emberstrike (Q) to apply the 8% damage increase.

Items

  1. Rush Dusk and Dawn first for the core on-hit scaling, followed by Hextech Gunblade and Abyssal Mask.
  2. If enemy tanks build heavy Magic Resistance, rush Void Staff as your 4th item. Void Staff is preferred over Cryptbloom due to higher raw Ability Power.
  3. If the enemy is not building Magic Resistance, build Rabadon's Deathcap before Void Staff.
  4. In late game or when very rich, Abyssal Mask can be replaced with Shadowflame or other high-AP items.

Runes

  1. Press the Attack is ideal for quick burst trades; Conqueror and Grasp of the Undying take too long to stack in all-in skirmishes.

Tips and Tricks

Champion

Scalemail
Scalemail (Passive)

  1. Assists counts toward Scalemail (Passive) stacks. So don't just look for kills, being present in fights pays off.

Emberstrike
Emberstrike (Q)

  1. Emberstrike (Q) is auto attack reset, so try weaving between auto attacks, i.e. AA -> Q -> AA -> Q.
    • This maximizes damage output. It is especially important to push turrets faster.

Inferno Aegis
Inferno Aegis (W)

  1. Inferno Aegis (W) shield scales with number of nearby enemies. For example, it is usually better to use Inferno Aegis (W) after diving into enemy team with Dragon's Descent (R), rather than before.
  2. You can use Inferno Aegis (W) before taking portal or frost-gates. If you time it well, it is gonna expire mid-flight and explode, dealing damage to the enemies on your path during travel. Especially effective, if you are playing AP #champion build!

Molten Burst
Molten Burst (E)

  1. Always fire Molten Burst (E) from fog of war, bushes or at least pretend that you are looking into other direction. This way you can hit enemies more easily.

Dragon's Descent
Dragon's Descent (R)

  1. You are unstoppable during the transformation, you can't be CC out of it anymore and you can use it to counter incoming CC as well.
  2. Aim THROUGH your targets, not at them. Dragon's Descent (R) breathes fire on enemies below and fears as you fly through them.
    • Remember about the angle. Enemies will run away from you after the fear, which means they'll run toward your team if you ult correctly from the right angle. Otherwise, they will run away.
  3. Dragon's Descent (R) is affected by Ultimate Haste - you generate more fury.
  4. Dragon's Descent (R) can work as peel too, not just engage/burst tool. If you have good carry on your team you can consider keeping it for them in fights.
  5. Use the fear to chain your full combo.

Shyvana Combo

  1. R -> (AoE fear) -> empowered E -> Q -> Q -> true damage Q

Riot

  1. Shyvana's abilities all benefit from attacking units. As a result, Attack Speed items are more valuable on her than most champions.
  2. Flame Breath is great to level-up against difficult lane opponents.
  3. Burnout is an ideal choice for jungling. Monsters will be hit by the full duration, and the speed boost improves her ganking potential.
  4. It can be valuable to purchase one of the items that can slow enemies: Frozen Mallet, Dead Man's Plate, or Entropy.
