TLDR

Heartsteel Shyvana Runes

Optional Summoner Spells
Ghost
Ghost for extra mobility and chasing - great for staying on top of enemies and farming more Heartsteel procs.
Exhaust
Defensive option. Exhaust for peeling against enemy divers and assassins and protecting your carries.
Ignite
Offensive option if you are feeling spicy. Grievous Wounds + some damage. Good in early fights and you can score some kills, but reduces your going-in potential. Especially later.
Optional Runes
Demolish
If you are into taking objectives, you can consider taking Demolish rune. Usually it is worth it and lets you push turrets quicker. Utility slash team oriented option.
How it works
- You play Heartsteel Shyvana.
- You rush Heartsteel #1 and stack as much HP as possible.
- You build items that scale and benefit from HP, then add Armor and MR depending on the enemy team.
Playstyle
Rush Heartsteel and get tons of HP.
Auto attack to get stacks - your HP depends on it.
Adapt your tank items to what the enemy team is throwing at you.
How to play
Getting started
- You rush Heartsteel #1 unless it is going to be hard to proc it - they are all ranged and just poke you. Then you start slow with Guardian's Horn instead.
- Guardian's Horn is a surprisingly good item for its price. You can keep it for a very long time (or even have it as 6th item).
Item Order
- Item Order after Heartsteel is flexible. You need to see what you need in particular game:
- Get Overlord's Bloodmail for more damage and AD.
- Get Warmog's Armor as anti-poke item (helps you stay in lane) and for some sweet HP.
- Get Unending Despair, if there are prolonged fights in which you can stay near enemies (or enemies near you). The items gets better, the more HP you get.
- Get various Armor and/or MR items to counter enemy team.
- Get Titanic Hydra for more fun, more damage and some survivability.
During fights
- Your main damage and power comes from auto attacks - Grasp of the Undying and Heartsteel.
- This is auto attack oriented Shyvana build, so do it! Especially if running with Titanic Hydra or Sundered Sky.
- You can prioritize switching between champions in the fight, just to farm more Heartsteel procs.
- Remember to consume your Heartsteel procs!
Adapting
- You need to adapt your items to the game. Enemy team heavy on AP? Buy MR. They heavy on AD? Buy Armor. You need some damage? Well buy that.
- Sundered Sky is very good damage item for this build (as #2-#4 depending on the game). It scales off your HP. It gives damage and pretty good sustain in fights. Remember to switch targets to maximize the effect!
- You can use Bandlepipes to give your whole team an attack speed boost whenever you impair enemies. Great synergy with auto attackers.
Runes
- Second Wind scales off with your HP, so it is going to be powerful sustain rune. You can use it by purposefully triggering it by letting enemies poke you a little or walking over some harmful spells.
- Shield Bash is good rune for this build, since you can proc it reliably.
- Remember to consume your Grasp of the Undying procs!
Tips and Tricks
Champion
Scalemail (Passive)

- Assists counts toward Scalemail (Passive) stacks. So don't just look for kills, being present in fights pays off.
Emberstrike (Q)

- Emberstrike (Q) is auto attack reset, so try weaving between auto attacks, i.e. AA -> Q -> AA -> Q.
- This maximizes damage output. It is especially important to push turrets faster.
Inferno Aegis (W)

- Inferno Aegis (W) shield scales with number of nearby enemies. For example, it is usually better to use Inferno Aegis (W) after diving into enemy team with Dragon's Descent (R), rather than before.
- You can use Inferno Aegis (W) before taking portal or frost-gates. If you time it well, it is gonna expire mid-flight and explode, dealing damage to the enemies on your path during travel. Especially effective, if you are playing AP #champion build!
Molten Burst (E)

- Always fire Molten Burst (E) from fog of war, bushes or at least pretend that you are looking into other direction. This way you can hit enemies more easily.
Dragon's Descent (R)

- You are unstoppable during the transformation, you can't be CC out of it anymore and you can use it to counter incoming CC as well.
- Aim THROUGH your targets, not at them. Dragon's Descent (R) breathes fire on enemies below and fears as you fly through them.
- Remember about the angle. Enemies will run away from you after the fear, which means they'll run toward your team if you ult correctly from the right angle. Otherwise, they will run away.
- Dragon's Descent (R) is affected by Ultimate Haste - you generate more fury.
- Dragon's Descent (R) can work as peel too, not just engage/burst tool. If you have good carry on your team you can consider keeping it for them in fights.
- Use the fear to chain your full combo.
Shyvana Combo
- R -> (AoE fear) -> empowered E -> Q -> Q -> true damage Q
Riot
- Shyvana's abilities all benefit from attacking units. As a result, Attack Speed items are more valuable on her than most champions.
- Flame Breath is great to level-up against difficult lane opponents.
- Burnout is an ideal choice for jungling. Monsters will be hit by the full duration, and the speed boost improves her ganking potential.
- It can be valuable to purchase one of the items that can slow enemies: Frozen Mallet, Dead Man's Plate, or Entropy.
