Shield Tank Taric build with runes and items. Shield Tank Taric guide offers in-depth how-to play, skill order and tips. Play Shield Tank Taric build in League of Legends Patch 26.2!
Defensive option. Exhaust for peeling against enemy divers and assassins and protecting your carries.
Ignite
Offensive option if you are feeling spicy. Grievous Wounds + some damage. Good in early fights and you can score some kills, but reduces your going-in potential. Especially later.
Ghost
Ghost for extra mobility - great for chasing down fleeing enemies and ensuring you can land your CC.
The idea of the build is centered around getting frequent, massive shields from Fimbulwinter combined with Sterak's Gage and more.
You act as a disruption tank with surprisingly high survivability.
Playstyle
Stack Tear of the Goddess and rush Fimbulwinter. 🧊
Stay in fights and spam slow/CC to get big shields over and over. 🛡️
Adapt your tank items to what the enemy team is throwing at you. ⚔️
How to play
Shield Tank Taric
You are all about shields. Bastion (W), Fimbulwinter and Sterak's Gage.
General
Getting started
Start with Guardian's Horn and Tear of the Goddess. Your early goal is to stack Tear as fast as possible.
Rush Fimbulwinter #1. Once completed and fully stacked, every time you slow/CC an enemy, you will gain a shield.
Items
Sterak's Gage is good counter against burst damage and works nicely with shield tank fantasy. (Note: Protoplasm Harness is another option that might be better in the future, but currently, Sterak's Gage remains superior for this setup).
Spirit Visage heavily amplifies both your healing and shielding, it is core item.
Adapting
After your core items (Fimbulwinter, Sterak's, Kaenic, Spirit Visage), adapt to the enemy team.
If they are heavy on AD, go Armor (Frozen Heart, Randuin's). If they are heavy on AP, buy MR (Force of Nature).
Runes
Be careful to not waste Aftershock. Try timing it and keeping it for going in.
Shield Bash is incredible here because you will constantly have a shield up.
Items
Hitting your Dazzle (E) stun will proc Fimbulwinter.
Tips and Tricks
Champion
Bravado (Passive)
Always keep auto attacking, whenever possible. Your Bravado (Passive) provides good damage and reduces cooldowns of your basic abilities!
Also weave abilities for even more cooldown reduction. I.e. two auto attacks - spell - two auto attacks - spell. This way you can reduce Dazzle (E) cooldown very fast.
Dazzle (E)
To elevate your Taric's game, when you want to Dazzle (E) + Flash combo make sure to do it at the very last frame of the animation, so enemies won't have any time to react.
Cosmic Radiance (R)
Do not wait for 'special' moment with your Cosmic Radiance (R)! You feel that fight is about to happen, use it early.
You can use your Cosmic Radiance (R) to team fight (combined with Dazzle (E) and just going in) or to scare off enemies or to dive under turret.
Engaging
You have good engaging tools - Dazzle (E) and Cosmic Radiance (R). Use it!
Taric Combos
E + Flash Combo: You can use Dazzle (E) then Flash.
Riot
The cooldown reducing component of Bravado makes Cooldown Reduction items like Frozen Heart, Iceborn Gauntlet, and Spirit Visage exceptionally powerful on Taric.
Using Starlight's Touch at lower charges makes its healing less Mana efficient, but can greatly increase Taric's sustained damage via Bravado.
Rather than saving Cosmic Radiance for the last moment and risking someone dying during the delay, it can be more beneficial to cast it as soon as you know a teamfight is guaranteed to start.
